Welcome to The Riverside at Aymestrey
“I took over The Riverside as Chef Patron in May 2016, having been Head Chef here for the past 10 years. My passion for my kitchen garden, sourcing local produce and menu innovation is tremendous. My team and I look forward to welcoming you to The Riverside in the near future.” Andy Link

The Riverside at Aymestrey is situated deep in the heart of Herefordshire countryside just on the southern edge of the Mortimer Forest, yet still close to Ludlow and Hereford.
Authentic and atmospheric, the 16th century black and white building is surrounded by the natural beauty of the River Lugg valley. A small and lovely village with lovely people completes the setting.
Hopefully we will surprise you with our food. Classic flavours in a country style with original touches that make quite a difference, cooked by Andy and his team.
The bar and restaurant have been deliberately kept in a traditional style – log fires, candles, hops and oak beams, bricks and stone. There is plenty of space by the river or in the terrace garden to eat when the weather allows and a wander around our kitchen garden is highly encouraged! We offer hand pulled real ales from Cleobury Mortimer and Stoke Lacey; with cider from Tenbury Wells and Leominster.
Accommodation is provided, all rooms are individually furnished, one has the friendly resident ghost – the lady from the river. Dogs are welcome – let us know they are coming (there is a £10 charge per night). The Hayloft suite overlooks the river and opens out onto the terrace garden, the Stable suite is at ground level opening onto the courtyard – especially convenient for guests with dogs.
We are really lucky to have and use a large kitchen garden – we practice from “seed to plate”. We have our own bees and last year substantially extended the orchards and introduced perennial crops. Lot’s to see – please feel free to wander around the garden and if you would like a tour, Andy or one of his team would be very happy to show you around.
The river and its banks is full of wildlife – dragonflies, dippers, otters, kingfishers, brown trout and grayling all live here. Fly fishing is available for our guests on a 1½ mile beat upstream from the Inn (one rod per day – £15).
We have a good selection of circular walks ranging from 3 to 15 miles length – the most popular takes you to an Iron Age Hill Fort then onto Croft Castle with its 1000 years of history. You can walk from Ludlow to Kington over two or three days and see some of the most stunning views in Herefordshire.
With the Riverside Inn as a base, you can comfortably visit five golf courses, the Black and White Village Trail, Ludlow, Hereford, houses and gardens, heritage sites, breweries, cider presses, cheese-wrights, visitor centres & country parks
Or just sit by the river.
